Everything ran pretty much to time and, after 8 hours or so in the air, we landed at Charlotte in North Carolina for our change of plane onwards to Orlando. Charlotte gave us the opportunity to get through immigration which is much less daunting these days than it used to be. The first part is automated and then you still see an immigration officer, but most of them have now completed their courses at charm school and even chat about your visit.
So after a couple of hours of changeover we were on our way again for the relatively short hop to Orlando. Paperwork completed at the car hire desk, we set off on the 40-minute journey to the house via a welcome stop at McDonald's and we were on the drive by 10pm local time, so 23 hours after we had set off from Sunnyside.
The bed was a welcome sight .....
